Enjoy, Learn, Achieve

Year 3

Welcome to Year 3.  I am Mrs Carr, the class teacher, and our LSA is Mrs Orton.  We both love teaching this age group and making learning fun and stimulating.

Year 3 is an important transition from KS1 to KS2.  The children continue to develop their skills of independence and resilience in their learning.  We begin to learn the recorder, try out different sports such as tag rugby, swimming and Ultimate Frisbee and develop our creative side across the curricular topics.  This year is the first time that the children get to be involved in the carol concert and the Vocal-Ease concert.

We study some interesting topics, such as The Stone Age to the Iron Age, Journey from Land’s End to John O’Groats and Magnetism, developing key skills across the curriculum in a stimulating and engaging way.

As children become ‘free readers’ it is still vitally important that they share their reading with an adult at home.  Spellings also need to be practised at home for the test each Friday.  Each child has access to a range of subscription websites which support their learning and homework will be set on these where relevant.  Details can be found inside their reading records.

Miss Steadman teaches PE on a Thursday and we also have PE on a Friday.  Children will need outdoor kit for both lessons in the Autumn term but an indoor kit can stay in school for those occasions when we can’t get outside.

Remember, if you have any questions I am always available.  Please email using and you will get a prompt reply or phone the office.

We hope your child has a great time in Year 3!
