Welcome to Year 1.
Our class teachers are Mrs Fletcher and Miss Wilman and our LSA is Miss Jordan. Lots of other adults work with us in school too, including Miss Steadman, who teaches us PE. Our PE days are Monday and Wednesday.
Year 1 is a fun and exciting year in which we seamlessly make the transition from the Early Years Curriculum to the National Curriculum. We start with a very play-based approach and later in the year, we move towards a more structured but often active, hands on approach.
Our main focus for this term is to make sure our children are happy and feel safe being back in school. Our first class topic will be 'Marvellous Me' where we will spend time getting to know the children, including their interests which will later inform our topics and curriculum for the rest of the year.
Our learning in Phonics is especially important in Year 1 as this foundation supports our learning in Reading, Writing and across the curriculum. At the end of Year 1 we all have to take the DFES Year 1 Phonics Test. Don’t worry though, we will have had lots of practice by then and won’t even know that we are doing it! We will be revisiting many of the children's favourite books from last year as well as reading and sharing some new and exciting stories.
Please keep popping back here as we will be uploading further information about our curriculum as the year progresses.
Remember, if you have any questions please do come and speak to us.
