Sports Premium
What is the Sports Premium?
The government is providing funding of £150 million per annum for the academic years 2015/16 and 2016/17 to provide new and substantial primary school sports funding. The funding is being jointly provided by the Departments for Education, Health and Culture, Media and Sport, and will see money going directly to primary school Head teachers to spend on improving the quality of sport and PE for all their children.
Each school will receive £8,000 plus an extra £5 per pupil each year.
This means that we will receive £8,980 for New Swannington Primary School.
Purpose of the Funding
Schools are required to spend the sport funding on improving their provision of PE and sport, but they have the freedom to choose how they do this.
At New Swannington Primary School, we are strongly committed to PE and recognise the contribution PE makes to the health and wellbeing of our children.
Swimming is a focal point of our PE commitment and a swimming programme is built into our school year for our Year 3 and Year 4 children with a view to ensuring that all children achieve a good standard by the time they leave us to progress to KS3. Due to the Covid-19 Lockdown during 2020, swimming sessions were not completed, however, we have made additional provision during 2021 to ensure that a programme of 'catch-up' is completed for the cohort who did not complete this programme.
