Welcome to EYFS - the Early Years Foundation Stage of New Swannington Primary School.
Our staff team in EYFS is led by the class teacher Mrs Mitchell, who is supported by Mrs Harden and Mrs Sparrow. Sometimes other adults in school work in EYFS too, such as Miss Steadman who teaches PE, Mr Chulan who supports Computing and Mrs Heathcote and Mrs Uzzell who lead Forest Schools.
In EYFS, we aim to develop the skills and attributes children need to become engaged, motivated and independent learners. We believe that ‘play’ is the best tool for learning and that ‘active learning’ encourages children to become ‘creative and critical learners’.
Active learning means that we do go outdoors a lot and get messy! Please make sure that your child has appropriate clothing for the weather and a spare set of clothes in school at all times.
Alongside daily Reading (Phonics) and Maths sessions, most of the children’s learning is based around their interests and needs so ‘topics’ change frequently and can range from traditional tales to spacemen, monsters to super heroes, jelly to trucks – we just have to wait and see where our learning journey takes us!
We are always interested in how the children are getting on at home too. So, if your child does something for the first time, achieves something that they have been struggling with, surprises you with what the know or gains an award or certificate we would love to hear about it. You can email photographs and observations to EYFS@new-swann.leics.sch.uk and we can share them with the class and add them to their Learning Journey Record.
Reading is at the heart of our learning and In mid September we will be holding a Reading Evening where we can share how we teach reading at New Swannington and how you can help your child with this at home.
In the meantime if you have any questions or concerns please do get in touch.
