Mrs Andrea Cave - Co-opted Governor & Chair of Governors

Hi, my name is Andrea.  I am the current Chair of Governors and have been a co-opted governor at New Swannington Primary School since April 2024.  Prior to this, I was a professional Clerk to Governors at another local primary school for about nine years.

I am a working mum and have lived in Whitwick for most of my life.  I have a son and niece at the school, both with Special Educational Needs.  I work as an Operations Officer for the Environmental Protection Team at North West Leicestershire District Council and I am also a Designated Safeguarding Officer and Mental Health First Aider.

I have a lot of experience in managing projects, staff and working alongside various stakeholders.  I am involved in Scouting and I am a Cub Leader in the 4th Coalville Scout Group.  I have a keen interest in Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) and have attended various courses to further my knowledge and understanding.  I enjoy spending time with my family and dog, Shadow, cooking and building Lego.  I also like listening to rock/metal music.

New Swannington is an amazing school and I am proud to be part of the governing body to help support the school and ensure we get the best education we can for our children.   I have always felt part of the New Swannington family since my son started school in 2019.  All the staff are friendly and welcoming and I lose count of how many times I say hello to people on the school run (walk.   It was no surprise that the school maintained their good Ofsted rating following our recent inspection.  It just confirms what we already know: the teachers and staff at the School, under Mrs Ramsell's leadership, do an amazing job and are a credit to themselves and the school.

Let's not forget the most important members of our family, the children, they are all amazing, and it's a real pleasure to see how happy and keen they are to learn.  Whilst I walk around the school, they are always so proud to show me their work and tell me what they are learning.  They help make New Swannington the great inclusive school that it is.
