Welcome to Year 5. Our class teacher is Mrs Jenner and our LSA is Miss Jordan. We also have Miss Steadman, who takes us for PE once a week, and Mrs Bithell who takes us for French and Music.
Year 5 is an interesting and challenging year where we continue to develop key skills across the curriculum. We study a wide range of topics which help us to understand the world and our place in it. We also have the opportunity to learn to play the ukulele, which we are all looking forward to. We have PE on Tuesday and Thursday and would appreciate it if your child has their full PE kit with them on these days.
Our first topic this year is 'Extreme Earth'. We will look at different climate zones around the world and look how climates change around the poles and the equator. We will identify the countries in the world that have extreme weather conditions and think about the effects these occurrences have on people and landscape. We will also look at Natural Disasters and consider the devastation they cause.
In our next topic we will develop our chronological knowledge beyond 1066 through studying Crime and Punishment throughout history. We will look at the legacy of the Roman justice system and crime and punishment through Anglo-Saxon, Tudor and Victorian periods. As part of this topic we will be taking a trip to the National Justice Museum in Nottingham on Wednesday 31st October.
