Welcome to Year 1.
Our class teacher is Mrs. Mitchell and our LSA is Miss Fessey. Lots of other adults work with us in school too, including Mrs. Stevenson, who teaches us French and Miss Steadman, who teaches us P.E.
Year 1 is a fun and exciting year in which we seamlessly make the transition from the Early Years Curriculum to the National Curriculum. Through the year, we move from predominantly play based learning, to a more structured but often active, hands on approach.
Our learning in Phonics is especially important in Year 1 as this foundation supports our learning in Reading, Writing and across the curriculum. At the end of Year 1 we all have to take the DFES Year 1 Phonics Test. Don’t worry though, we will have had lots of practice by then and won’t even know that we are doing it!
