Physical Education

Hi. I’m Mr Skinner and I am the subject leader for PE.

I believe that PE and school sport play a vital role in primary school life. It is during these years that we can develop in our children an enjoyment and passion for physical activity.

Here at New Swannington we really value all aspects of Physical Education including school sport, physical literacy and healthy and active lifestyles. We know how important physical activity is to a child’s physical development and mental wellbeing and the benefits it has on many aspects of children’s lives.

We link all of our school sport and physical activity to the School Games values of self-belief, determination, passion, team-work, respect and honesty. These are an integral part of our PE curriculum and are focused on as much as the physical skills.

We follow the National Curriculum Programme of Study for P.E and the subject is mapped across year groups to ensure that all areas of physical development and activity are covered repeatedly. Every child, receives two hours of high quality PE a week delivered by our teaching staff as well as external sports coaches.

We aim to provide every child with the opportunity to experience school sport and physical activity in both a competitive and non-competitive environment. We ensure that our provision is inclusive and that every child has the opportunity to take part in events outside of school through our partnership with the North West Leicestershire School Sports Partnership.

If you have any further questions regarding P.E, please contact me via the school office.

Meet Our Physical Education Ambassadors

Hi I’m Rose and I’m one of the Year 5 Sports ambassadors. I like all sports but my favourite is athletics, especially obstacle relays. I enjoy PE because you learn about a variety of sports and I think they’re really enjoyable. It’s an important subject because everyone can find a sport for them no matter what they like. I’m looking forward to helping out at sports events, such as, Sports Day.

Hello my name is Ronnie and I am also a Year 5 sports ambassador. I really like football. I enjoy sport because you play as a team and make lots of new friends. PE is really important as it helps to keep you fit and healthy. I am looking forward to helping at the after-school sports clubs.
