Red Ridge - Tuesday

Our first full day at Red Ridge.  We got up fairly early, washed and then got our rooms ready for inspection.

Surprisingly, our rooms were very tidy and we all passed our room inspection first time!  It looks like it will be a close run competition for room of the week.  Then it was off to breakfast.  We had cereal, toast and a full english breakfast.  After breakfast, we went for our first activity of the day.  We got into our climbing harnesses and headed for the High Ropes course.  We had lots of challenging and quite scary activities to do including Climbing; Tarzan Swing; Abseiling; Leap of Faith and Zip Wire.

In Tarzan swing we had to leap off the platform and swing into a large cargo net, then climb up it to complete the activity.  Abseiling was a free abseil.  We had to lower ourselves down through a hole in the top of the tower.  In Zip Wire, we leaped off the tower and whizzed over the field, then lowered ourselves down to the ground.  The scariest and most difficult was the Leap of Faith.  We had to climb up a large pole and then stand on the top and do a dance. Then we jumped off and were lowered to the ground.  The pole was a bit wobbly...and some of the dances were a bit dodgy!  On all of these activities, we had to push ourselves out of our comfort zone and do our best....which we all did.

After lunch, we headed off for Kayaking at the lake.  We were shown various skills and practised them on the water. Some of us even managed to paddle in a straight line!  We also played quite a few games on the water.

Then it was back to our rooms for a shower and off to dinner. Tonight we had chicken, roast potatoes, carrots and gravy, followed by peaches and ice-cream.

Our evening activity was Orienteering.  We split up into small teams and set off with our maps to find the markers.  It was light when we started, but got darker as the evening went on which made it a bit tricky.  One team won by quite a margin.....whilst some of us might need to brush up on our map reading skills!

After a very full day, it was hot chocolate and off to our rooms for some quiet time and bed.
